Dantri/DTiNews newspapers' readers have donated a total of VND322 million (USD14,023) for a single woman and her ailing son in the northern mountainous province of Thai Nguyen.
La Thi Tho, 31, in Diem Mac Commune, Dinh Hoa District, and her 11-year-old son Nguyen Thu Vu live in a dilapidated house that is made from straw and mud. Her son was diagnosed with thalassemia when he was in Grade 1. She has debts of hundreds of millions of VND. Her son’s condition has worsened, but she doesn’t know where to borrow money from to cover his treatment.
The donation was granted to the family
Tho herself is also struggling with congenital heart disease, but due to the family’s financial difficulties, she can only stay at home, instead of going to hospital for treatment.
On July 7, a reporter from Dantri/DTiNews granted the donation to the family.
Tho felt moved to receive the financial support, expressing her deep gratitude for the help.
She said that she would use part of the money to build a new house and cover the treatment for her son.
On behalf of local authorities, Vi Thi Thuan, deputy head of the Father Front Committee in Dinh Hoa District, thanked Dantri/DTiNews readers for the support.
