Vietnam recorded 1,625 new Covid-19 infections on Friday, raising the total number of patients in the country to 26,010, the Ministry of Health has reported.
According to the ministry's report,1,616 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 1,229 in Ho Chi Minh City, 77 in Long An, 73 in Binh Duong, 34 in Tien Giang, 32 in Dong Nai, 32 in Dong Thap, 29 in Khanh Hoa, 28 in Phu Yen, 15 in Bac Ninh, 10 in Bac Giang, eight in Tra Vinh, eight in Hung Yen, seven in Quang Ngai, six in Can Tho, five in An Giang, four in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, four in Hau Giang, two in Vinh Phuc, two in Bac Lieu, two in Hanoi, two in Soc Trang, and one each in Gia Lai, Lam Dong, Thanh Hoa, Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Danang, and Nghe An.
Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Thursday the city also recorded 915 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.
As of Friday evening, 22,533 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 10,295 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 57 cities and provinces nationwide.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 26,010 including 24,103 locally-transmitted cases.
As of 6 pm on July 9, a total of 8,984 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.
So far there have been 110 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, over 259,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
By the end of July 8, Vietnam has conducted nearly four million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. More than 249,000 people have received two doses of the vaccine.
