Vietnam adds 189 cases to local Covid-19 tally

HCM City saw the highest number of patients with 158, Tien Giang (16), Phu Yen (8), Hung Yen (6), and Vinh Long (1).

Among the cases, 188 were recorded in quarantined or locked down areas. Meanwhile, a 27-year-old woman in Vinh Long tested positive for the virus on Monday after returning home from the Covid-19 hotspot of HCM City.

By 6 am on Thursday, Vietnam recorded 15,254 locally-transmitted Covid-19 cases and 1,798 ones from abroad. The number of new infections from April 27 reached 13,684.

Yen Bai, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Thai Nguyen, Bac Lieu, Dien Bien, Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Phu Tho and Ha Nam have gone through 14 days without witnessing any new Covid-19 infections.

The country has reported 81 Covid-19-related deaths, while 6,840 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospital.

At present, 206,585 people are being quarantined, including 2,117 at hospitals and the others at quarantine sites or homes.

As of Monday, more than 3.77 million of the nation's 96 million have received their first vaccine jab against Covid-19. A total of 193,041 are fully vaccinated.
