The male patient, born in 1977, was an F1 so he was brought to a local quarantine centre. On June 28, his test result came back positive so he was transferred to the Thu Duc Hospital.

Dr. Cao Tan Phuoc said the patient wanted to go home so the doctors had to persuade him. At 9 pm on the same day, the patient was nowhere to be found.

"After looking at the security cameras, we saw that the patient climbed over the fence to get out of the hospital," Phuoc said. "He was found two hours later and has been more co-operative. We have reported the case to the Department of Health."

Tran Quoc Hung, chairman of Linh Trung Ward People's Committee, confirmed the case. After receiving the news, the locality authorities had sent employees to search for the patient. They also proposed to Thu Duc City authorities to have tighter monitoring measures at the hospital.

Thu Duc Hospital covers 6ha and has four entrances. Recently, its in-patient treatment area was transformed into a Covid-19 treatment area with 1,000 beds, separated from the rest of the hospital.

The hospital received the first 70 Covid-19 patients on June 28. On the following day, the hospital checked all of the fences and reported to the Department of Health on tighter management measures.
