According to local authorities, over 400,000 residents in the city had their first Covid-19 injections the first five days of the campaign.
People gathered at Phu Tho Stadium which is the largest vaccination site to wait for their turn to get the vaccination.
About 8,000 people will be given vaccines daily at Phu Tho Stadium.
Ho Chi Minh City director of the Department of Health, Nguyen Tan Binh, said that over 800,000 vaccine doses will be given in the campaign that will be completed on June 26.
The official revealed that total of 1,109 individuals had suffered from some forms of side-effects after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, with 73 experiencing anaphylaxis, but they have been handled in a timely manner by medical teams.
