Nam Dinh family struggles against illnesses

A woman in Nam Dinh Province is calling for financial support to help provide medical treatment for her ill husband.

35-year-old Nguyen Thi Hien said her father-in-law died 10 years ago from cancer, leaving a huge debt behind. Hien then left her son with her mother and went to Hanoi with her husband to find works. Hien collects scraps from dumping sites while her husband became a shoe shiner for little money.

Unfortunately, their second son was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and was transferred to Hanoi. Hien continued borrowing money everywhere she could for her son's surgery.

In June 2020, her husband, Dang Van Viet, suddenly fainted and was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, and ventriculomegaly, a condition in which the ventricles appear larger than normal. Since then, he has gone through six operations. According to the doctors, he will need more operations but the family have already exhausted all their access to funds.

Viet's health has become very weak and he can hardly see anything clearly.

Do Quang Sang, party secretary of Village 14, Xuan Thuong Commune said Hien and Viet's family has been a poor household for years.

"We hope people will help them overcome such a difficult time and to help the children continue studying," he said.
