On May 19, the Vietnam Department of Animal Health announced that while inspecting 980 live pigs imported into Vietnam, they had found several pigs were sick with African Swine Fever.

On May 28, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sent an official document to the Embassy of Thailand in Hanoi about halting live pig imports to prevent an outbreak. Contracts that have been signed will still be carried out. Live pigs covered by the contracts will be imported until June 29 under close inspection.

The Department of Animal Health was asked to work with Thai authorities to monitor the situation and resume imports when it is safe.
