Traffic accidents killed 2,656 people and injured 3,788 others in this period, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee, representing a 0.41% and 4.46% fall respectively on-year.

Of the total traffic accidents in this period, road accidents accounted for 3,291 cases, killing 2,609 people. Meanwhile, 31 railway accidents left 25 dead and seven injured. Twenty-one accidents on waterways claimed 14 lives and injured one, while five maritime accidents left eight dead or missing.
Between April 15 and May 14, 962 traffic accidents happened in Vietnam, leaving 491 dead and injuring 675 people.
The committee added that despite the on-year fall, the number of traffic accidents in Vietnam remained high.
Under the newly-approved National Strategy for Road Safety 2021-2030 With a Vision Towards 2045, the numbers of death and injuries relating to road accidents are targeted to decrease 5-10% annually.
From 2021 to 2030, Vietnam aims to clear all road traffic accident hotspots and accident-prone locations.
