Dantri/DTiNews readers have donated a total VND226.23 million (USD9,836) for a 12-year-old girl in the southern province of Dong Thap who is on the verge of death due to leukaemia.

The move came after an article about Vo Thi Que Tran’s condition was published in the newspaper.

The donation was granted to the girl and her father

Vo Thanh Tam from Lang Bien Commune has been taking care of his daughter Vo Thi Que Tran, 12, alone for eight years, after his wife left home without saying a word.

Tran was born with Down’s Syndrome. By late 2018, Que Tran experienced high fever and great pain. Her legs then became smaller and she was unable to stand up. Doctors at a hospital in HCM City diagnosed that she had leukaemia.

The bad news really shocked the father who only could hug her closely and cry. He tried to borrow money from different sources to take her to hospital for the treatment. Following the treatment, her health condition improved for nearly two years.

However, in late 2020, she was hospitalised again due to leukaemia.

On Monday, head of the newspaper’s representative office in HCM City, Ly Thi Toan Thang, granted the donation to Tam.

The father expressed his great thanks, saying that he would use the money to cover his daughter’s treatment.
