The ranking assesses universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ranking takes into account the impact of universities and their contribution to social development and environmental protection. 1,115 universities were assessed in this year's rankings.

Vietnam National University-Hanoi was given high marks for its development activities, especially providing quality education services and contributing to the implementation of national sustainable development goals. It was ranked within the 401-600 bracket.

Vietnam National University-Hanoi earned 71.4 points for criterion SGD4 or quality education, ranking 92nd out of 966 facilities in the world, the highest-ranking that Vietnam National University-Hanoi has achieved. It was ranked in the 101-200 group for SDG5-gender equality and in the 201-300 group for SDG8-decent work and economic growth.

It is also ranked in the 401-600 group for SDG17-partnerships for the goals, the 301-400 group for SDG10-reduce inequality and among the 601-800 ranking for SDG3-health and well-being.

Three other universities that also entered the ranking were Ton Duc Thang University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Phenikaa University. Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the Vietnam National University-Hanoi showed high marks in SGD5-gender education. Ton Duc Thang and Phenikaa universities were given good points for SDG11-sustainable cities and communities.

The University of Manchester was in the first place, followed by the University of Sydney, RMIT, and La Trobe University.

In Southeast Asia, Thailand had 25, Malaysia 19, Indonesia 18, and the Philippines five universities in the ranking.
