According to the ministry's report, the two new patients include a 37-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who recently returned from Qatar and Japan to Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

They were sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on April 12. The two patients are now being treated at the Cu Chi Field Hospital for Covid-19 patients.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,707, including 910 locally-transmitted cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28.

As of 6 pm on April 12, a total of 2,445 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, nearly 37,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
