According to the ministry's report, the 55-year-old man returned from Angola to Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh Province on March 31. He was sent to a quarantine facility in Bac Ninh Province upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in his second testing on April 8.

The patient is now being treated at the Bac Ninh Provincial General Hospital.


With this new infection case, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,669, including 910 locally-transmitted cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28.

As of 6 pm on April 8, a total of 2,429 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, nearly 37,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
