According to the ministry's report, the 38-year-old Filipino man is a crew member of a cargo ship which arrived in Vietnam from South Korea on April 1. He tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 the same day and is now being treated at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
One of the Vietnamese patients is a 32-year-old man who returned from Angola at Van Don International Airport on March 31. He was sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and test positive for SARS-CoV-2 on April 1. He is now being treated at a hospital in Quang Ninh Province.
The last patient is a 24-year-old woman who return through Moc Bai International Border Gate in Tay Ninh Province on March 31. She tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on April 2 and is now being treated at a local healthcare centre.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,620, including 910 locally-transmitted cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28.
As of 6 pm on April 2, a total of 2,383 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, over 27,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
