At 12.35 pm on March 9, the fishing boat led by Nguyen Tu Toan and eight other crew members from Quynh Luu District, Nghe An Province, went out on a fishing trip. They collided with the Olympia cargo ship from the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

All nine fishermen fell into the sea. Seven of them were saved by the Olympia while two others remain missing. One of them is 42-year-old Nguyen Van Chau and the other is 47-year-old Nguyen Van Bang.

The accident occurred 72 nautical miles from Dong Hoa Commune, Phu Yen Province.

The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre for Zone 4 sent a rescue boat to the area and reported to the authorities of the coastal areas for help.

The Phu Yen Command of Border Guards said they had organised the search and rescue mission and called for other ships to help search for the missing fishermen.
