According to the ministry's report, all of the new patients are infected in the community including two in Hanoi and 38 in Hai Duong Province.
The two new patients in Hanoi include a 25-year-old Vietnamese woman and a 43-year-old Japanese man who had close contact with a Japanese man who was earlier confirmed as Covid-19 patient.
38 other patients link to a virus hotspot of Chi Linh City in Hai Duong. As of 6 am on February 15, the province has reported 475 patients including 234 cases in Chi Linh City.
Authorities in Hai Duong have announced to impose social distancing in the province beginning midnight on February 15.
The patients are now being treated at the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases and two hospitals in Hai Duong.
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,269, including 677 locally-transmitted cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28.
As of 6 pm on February 15, a total of 1,541 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, as many as 154,992 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
