Police in Hanoi’s Ha Dong District have fined many people for not wearing a face mask in public places as regulated.

On Tuesday alone, the district police found 29 people not wearing a face mask, imposing a total fine of VND47 million (USD2,043) in line with the government’s Decree 177/2020/ND-CP issued on September 28 last year.

The police also provided free face masks for the violators


According to the police, all bars and karaoke parlours in the district have been closed following the instruction of municipal authorities.

The district is home to 1,714 foreigners, including 385 Chinese and 622 South Koreans.

The police in other districts in Hanoi, including Hoan Kiem, Dong Da and Hai Ba Trung, have also deployed more staff to patrol the face mask-wearing in public places.

The Decree 177/2020/ND-CP stipulates that from November 15 last year, fines for people who do not wear face masks in places have been increased 10 times to VND3 million (USD130.43).
