28 new Covid-19 infection cases were recorded in the past 12 hours in Vietnam, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,767, the Ministry of Health reported on Saturday evening.

According to the ministry's report, the newly found patients included one imported case and 27 locally-transmitted ones linked with the hotspot Hai Duong province.
The imported case is a 47-year-old American man who flew from the US and transited in the Republic of Korea before landing at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on January 28. He tested positive with SARS-CoV-2 on January 29.
The 27 locally-transmitted cases include a 28-year-old man in Ho Chi Minh City, a man and his wife from the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai, two men from Hanoi, four people from Quang Ninh, and 18 others are in Hai Duong Province.
With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,767, including 901 local infections with 208 reported since January 27.
As of 6 pm on January 30, a total of 1,456 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
At present, nearly 22,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
