Over the past week, many tuna traders have flocked to ports in Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen. In January, these provinces have received a considerable increase in tuna import orders from partners in many countries, including the US, Canada, Colombia, Brazil and those in Europe, up 4-5 folds against December last year.

This is expected to offset the slump in consumption of tuna last year because of Covid-19. Some exporters even had to suspend their tuna purchasing for a certain period of time.
Nguyen Thi Thu Thanh, director of Ben Vung Seafood Ltd. Co., said that her company has served orders from the US and Canada. Demand for tuna from North America has risen.
At present, tuna prices have also grown 20-30% against last month. A kilo of tuna is bought from fishermen at VND110,000-116,000, up VND20,000-25,000 against December last year.
Over recent days, hundreds of fishing boats have arrived at local ports. Many of them have seen the good catch with 1.5-2.5 tonnes each, earning the revenues of VND150-250 million each.
