On December 30, Colonel Dinh Van Noi, director of An Giang Police Department, said they had decided to bring the case to court and were working with the police in other provinces like Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Long An and HCM City to investigate a group of people involved in the organised trafficking of people into Vietnam.

Patient 1440 was announced as having been tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on December 26. The 32-year-old man was from Vinh Long Province and illegally crossed the border into An Giang with six other people. According to the patient, on December 15, he went from Myanmar to Thailand and then to Cambodia on December 22 before entering Vietnam.

The group went on a bus and they travelled through Dong Thap Province before Patient 1440 and Patient 1452 were dropped off in Long An. Patient 1440 took a bus to Vinh Long while Patient 1452 took a bus to Dong Thap.

Patient 1440 is being quarantined and treated at Vinh Long TB and Lung Diseases Hospital. He is in stable condition.
