Mother wants to give cerebral-palsy son a better life

A family in Nghe An Province is in need of financial help to raise their son who has been struggling with cerebral palsy for 15 years.

Nguyen Huu Tai, born in 2005, has deformed limbs. At 15 years old, he weighs less than 5kg. Le Thi Minh, Tai's mother, said, "He has breathing difficulties because his lungs have withered. During cold days, I have to hold him all night."

Minh has three sons. Tai was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at only one month old. The family then sold everything for his treatment and went to hospital after hospital for three years but his condition didn't improve. In the end, Tai lost mobility. The doctors said they couldn't cure him so it would be better to spend money on nursing him at home.

"I was also taught how to give him massages but I'm just too busy to have time to take care of him properly. Now his joints have become dry and hard. There's a dent on his chest," Minh said.

Nguyen Huu Loc, Tai's father, used to work at construction sites for some money. However, his health also deteriorated the past two years and can't do hard work. Meanwhile, their second son was in jail so everything fell on Minh's shoulders.

Minh said she worked on the rice fields. Sometimes, she had to leave work to return home as Tai couldn't breathe and her husband didn't react quickly enough. Tai can't eat hard food and his digestive system is also weak. Minh said she had lost hope to cure him and only wanted to give him a better life.

Bui Dinh Hai, head of Nam Phuong Son Village, said, "Minh's situation is very difficult. But other villagers are also poor and can't help them much. I hope the community will help them get better."
