According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the flight was arranged by authorities of the two countries and the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines.
Staff at the Vietnamese Embassy in the US were sent to the airports in Washington D.C and Los Angeles to help the citizens with necessary procedures for the flight.
Passengers include children aged under 18, the elderly, people with illness, students, and those in extremely difficult circumstances.
After landing at the airport, all passengers and crew members of the flight were given health check-ups and sent to quarantine areas for 14 days following the government's regulations on Covid-19 prevention and control.
To date, over 200 repatriation flights have been arranged by Vietnamese authorities to help over 70,000 local people stranded abroad due to Covid-19 return home, the ministry said, adding that more such flights are set to be conducted in the coming time.
