In previous years, in order to get to Huoi Thum Village, travellers had to cross Ca Nan Stream which was dangerous during the rainy season. Thanks to Dantri readers and Garment 10 Company, a VND400m (USD17,200) bridge has been built there. The readers also donated VND90m and the Vietnam Fund for Learning Promotion gave VND60m to improve the living condition of local teachers.
Hong, a teacher in Huoi Thum Village, said, "Needless to say, the living conditions are very poor there. We had to live in dilapidated shacks. Everyone was scared that the roof might collapse when it rained."
"Huoi Thum is the most difficult village in this commune. We have to teach the students everything from academic knowledge to daily living skills. Despite the hardship, no one wants to give up," said teacher Duong Dinh Dung, "I want to thank everyone for giving us new staff rooms."
Huoi Thum Nursery and Primary School has 60 students and eight teachers. Nguyen Thi Thuy, director of Na Ngoi 2 Nursery School also expressed gratitude to the donors.
