Four of five bridges in Tuyen Hoa District have deteriorated and are in need of repair. However, many people still use the bridges as they have no other way of accessing the communal centre.
Kim Tien suspension bridge was built in 2005 and after 15 years, it shows signs of deterioration. It connects Kim Tien Village with the communal centres and key school sites. Hundreds of local people and children cross the bridge daily to go to work and schools.
"I'm worried about the safety of the passengers, especially the children. Our village has 700 people and everyone has to use this bridge," said Phan Xuan Can, head of Kim Tien Village.

The authorities of Kim Hoa Commune said due to limited budget, they could only repair some parts of the bridge like the surface and rusty joints. Vu Truong Thanh, vice chairman of Kim Hoa Commune People's Committee said the bridge had been repaired three times but the deterioration continues. They hope to be able to get more funding to build a new bridge.

Dong Tan Bridge was built 20 years ago and has also deteriorated badly. Cao Xuan Tin, vice chairman of Tuyen Hoa District People's Committee said they had funds for small repairs on the bridges every year.
"When we crossed the bridge to go home after school, it felt unstable and some parts of the bridge have broken," said Tran Thi Quynh Nhung from Dong Le Town.
