A strong cold spell is forecasted to hit the northern region from next Monday, bringing heavy rains and low temperatures.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, rains may arrive from the evening of October 4 in some northern mountainous regions and then spread to other lowland areas on the morning of October 5. At the same time, temperatures will drop sharply.

The centre also said that due to the effects of La Nina, winter may come earlier this year with lower average temperatures than previous years.

'There may be 4-6 cold spells hitting the northern region in October,' the centre forecasted. "Meanwhile, the central region from Thanh Hoa to Quang Nam provinces will see heavy rains this month".
