Nguyen Thi Hien, a trader at Han Market, said that her business has been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic as most of her products mainly serve tourists.
Many other traders are in the same situation as Hien, while they still pay shop rent and taxes.
According to Hoang Trung Thuong Duc, deputy head of Han Market management board, before the pandemic, the market was very bustling with large influxes of travellers. His board worked with taxation authorities to propose tax exemption for traders, depending on their loss levels.
At Dong Da Market, most kiosks offering footwear, clothes and souvenirs have failed to attract customers.
Mai Thi Cam, a trader at Dong Da Market, said that her revenues dropped by 50% to merely VND300,000-400,000 per day.
Nguyen Ha Bac, director of the Danang Department of Industry and Trade, urged districts to report local traders’ losses to recommend a land rent and tax reduction.
