On September 4, Doan Ngoc Thuong, vice chairman of Buon Ma Thuot People's Committee confirmed that the village has been isolated after a three-year-old boy was found to have diphtheria. All events with large crowds must be cancelled and students in the village will be allowed to stay home.

Cu Ebur Commune People's Committee was asked to collaborate with Buon Ma Thuot Medical Centre to monitor the situation and prevent the spread of diphtheria. They must disinfect the areas and give Erythromycin and then vaccines to the locals.

Local authorities must raise public awareness and preventive measures such as bringing suspected patients to medical facilities as quickly as possible, take antibiotics and vaccines as advised.

On September 3, Buon Ma Thuot Department of Tourism detected the first diphtheria case in the area who is a 3-year-old boy in Village 7. In total, 41 diphtheria cases have been detected in 15 communes of 6 districts and cities of Dak Lak Province.

On September 4, Chu Pah District Medical Centre in Gia Lai announced that they also detected three new diphtheria cases. All patients have been quarantined at the centre.

The district authorities have quickly asked related agencies to set up checkpoints at the patients' villages.
