His daughter Vu Thi Doi, 49, has been living with polyarthritis for many years, so she almost can’t do anything. Every day, Lam has to take care of the daughter who battles great pain.
The family’s income totally depends on Lam’s monthly elderly assistance which is very modest. There is nothing of value in the house except for two old beds and two plastic chairs.
Doi is Lam’s youngest daughter who has mental problems.
When Doi was at 30, she became pregnant with an unknown man. She then gave birth to a son but he drowned at the age of nine. Since then, Doi’s condition has got worsened.
In 2009, Lam was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia and had an operation.
