A 1.6 metre-long bomb is recovered from the Red River near Long Bien Bridge in Hanoi on June 22.

The bomb, which was discovered a week ago by a local fisherman, was retrieved by soldiers of the capital’s High Command at around 6:45 pm on June 22.

15 soldiers including divers joined in retrieving the bomb which was then taken with the support of patrol boats to an empty land lot far away from residential areas on Phu Vien Street, Long Bien District.

The bomb was then carried away by a military crane for defusing at 7pm the same day.

This is the second bomb left from the American War found near the Long Bien Bridge. Earlier in 2017, a bomb of over 2 metres long was recovered from the river and was then safely dismantled.

The Long Bien Bridge was heavily bombed by US troops during the American War from 1965 to 1972.
