The damaged wall at the Ho Citadel
After the storm in 2017, a part of the wall on the northeast was destroyed. In order to prepare for restoration work, Thanh Hoa People's Committee approved an archaeological excavation to study the structure and wall building techniques.
The Ho Citadel Conservation Centre said they had had all data and were ready for restoration work. Thanh Hoa People's Committee also said it was necessary to repair the damaged wall and in accordance with the Decision 1316 about the plan to preserve and promote Ho Citadel and tourism approved by the PM in 2015. The Ho Citadel Conservation Centre will be the wall restoration project's investor.
The 15-metre long wall will be restored and the outdoor display area will also be repaired. The investment cost is estimated at VND15bn and the construction will be carried out from 2020 to 2022. According to Thanh Hoa People's Committee, the provincial annual additional budget for cultural facilities is VND50bn so the fund for the project is secured.
The construction may have some impacts on the surrounding environment. Environmental protection measures have been proposed during the construction.
It is hoped that the project will help improve Thanh Hoa's socio-economic development.
