The rains which lasted for nearly one hour this morning, May 20, has helped to relieve the heat but caused the inundation.
The most serious flooding was seen at streets in Binh Thanh District and districts 2 and 9.
People tried to seek shelters in the rain.
On Nguyen Huu Canh Street in Binh Thanh District
A 300-metre section on Nguyen Huu Canh Street were up to 20-30 cm under water despite the pump system installed on the street.
Some sections on Nguyen Huu Canh Street will be upgraded to be 0.5 cm-1.2 m higher than the current level to avoid being submerged.
The rains stopped at 2 pm
On Tuesday, the city also faced downpours in the afternoon, leading to traffic congestion on many streets.
In the coming days, the southern region would continue struggling with hot weather with temperatures of 36-38 degrees centigrade.
