Two children missing and dead at Quan Lan Beach

A child has been found drowned and the other remains missing after being washed away while bathing at Quan Lan Beach, Quang Ninh Province, on May 11.

Luu Minh Duc, chairman of Quan Lan Island Commune, said the body of the girl was caught in a fishing net in the east of the beach. The authorities are still searching for the boy.

On May 10, a 10-year-old and 13-year-old child from Hanoi's Hoang Mai District went out to swim at Quan Lan Beach and were swept away. The two children travelled in a family group of 14 people. They all stayed in a hotel near Quan Lan Beach.

After receiving the news, Van Don District people's Committee quickly directed the search and rescue mission but faced many difficulties due to high waves and strong winds.

According to the authorities, this beach hasn't been given an operating license and many warning signs about reefs and whirlpool have been put up.
