Family in critical condition after fire accident

Three people in a family in Ha Nam Province are in desperate need of financial support to help cover hospital treatment after a fire.

23-year-old Pham Quoc Cuong bought a can of petrol on April 15 for his paintwork. However, when his mother, Chu Thi Tinh, was cooking in the kitchen, there was a short-circuit and the spark fell on Tinh and the petrol can, burning Tinh. When her sister tried to help, both of them caught on fire. Cuong was also caught on fire while trying to help them.

Since Cuong's family has a difficult background, their neighbours donated money to bring them to the hospital. Both Cuong and Tinh were in severe condition and fell into a coma.

Doctors from the National Institute of Burns in Hanoi said both Cuong and Tinh need multiple skin graft operations and the treatment is expensive. Dr Ngo Tuan Hung said, "Two of the family are being treated at the National Institute of Burns and the other one is being treated at Ha Nam General Hospital.

Chu Thi Tinh suffers from 54% burns, of which 10% are deep burns. 42% of Pham Quoc Cuong was burnt, of which 20% are deep burns on his neck, limbs and backside.

Doan Thi Thanh Hoa, Tinh's niece, said, "Everyone already has a difficult life back at the village, now they have to suffer from burns too. I have called for help from every villager but it's not enough for their treatment. I'm afraid that they will not make it."

According to Hoa, both Tinh and his sister had an unhappy marriage so they returned to their hometown and live with each other. Cuong is their only hope and the family's breadwinner.
