Ba Ria-Vung Tau to relocate and replace Vung Tau Airport to Go Gang Island.
Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province People's Committee have sent official documents to related agencies about the boundary of the project land area at Go Gang, Long Son Commune, Vung Tau City. The proposed land is 148.5ha with the Ganh Rai Bay on the southwest, Cha Va River on the northwest and the Vung Tau-Go Gang-Long Son Road on the northeast.
Traffic Project Management Board in Cai Mep-Thi Vai Port Area has also carried out a field survey and report to the provincial authority. Local authorities will issue guidance and directives about building planning and form of investment.
Vung Tau Airport, currently in Vung Tau City, covers125ha. It mostly receives helicopters serving the oil industry and military transport. It is managed by Southern Service Flight Company who is considered to have failed to fully tap into the province's tourism potential.
In late 2019, Van Phu - Invest Investment JSC and VCI Investment JSC asked provincial authorities to let them carry out research and propose a new project on the land once Vung Tau Airport is relocated to the new location.
Go Gang Island is 90 km from HCM City and 3 km away from Vung Tau City. In the past years, Go Gang Island has become more popular as a tourism spot.
