HCM City plans for possible Covid-19 infection rise

HCM City authorities have announced some scenarios to deal with the possibility of higher Covid-19 cases.

HCM City authorities have announced some scenarios to deal with the possibility of higher Covid-19 cases.

If HCM City sees 50 to 500 confirmed Covid-19 cases with 30 in critical condition and 740 suspected infections, the city will need 840 sick-beds, 123 doctors and 277 nurses.

If 100-200 cases with 60 in severe condition and 1,200 suspected infections, the city will require 1,400 beds for treatment, 60 beds for intensive care, 208 doctors and 476 nurses.

For both of these scenarios, the city will use the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases with 400 beds, Cu Chi Field Hospital (300 beds); Can Gio Hospital (600 beds) and HCM City’s Children Hospital (100 beds).

If the patient numbers reach 300, including 90 cases in severe condition, the city will mobilise 2,500 beds for treatment; 90 others for intensive care, 368 doctors and 826 nurses.

When there are 500 confirmed cases, the city will prepare 3,700 beds for treatment and 150 beds for intensive care at six hospitals and existing isolation areas at hospitals in the city. At that time, the treatment would require 548 doctors and 1,246 nurses.

With this scenario, the city will use the HCM City’s Children Hospital No. 2 along with these mentioned-above hospitals.

By Thursday, HCM City has reported 54 Covid-19 patients, including 35 from abroad, with 33 recovered.

The city has also planned a quarantine area with more than 12,000 beds.

According to Director of the municipal Department of Health, the city has detected no infection at quarantine areas.

The city has provided Covid-19 tests for 913 people coming from abroad since March 8. Around 600 people who are being quarantined are expected to finish their tests by April 4.

From April 10, HCM City will expand Covid-19 tests at populous areas.
