Of the new cases, 10 came back to Vietnam from foreign countries like Denmark with transits in Doha and Bangkok, the US, Germany, France and the UK; and four live in Vietnam including one doctor of the Hanoi-based National Hospital of Tropical Diseases.

This is the fourth health workers in the country who contracted the disease while treating other COVID-19 patients.Two are from the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases and two from the Bach Mai Hospital which is also in Hanoi.

On Wednesday afternoon, under the direction of the Ministry of Health, Bach Mai Hospital announced it planned to test nearly 4,000 medical staffs and around 1,000 patients after a 66-year old woman from the northern province of Lai Chau contracted the virus after being treated at the hospital.

The ministry said that the 14 new Covid-19 patients are all now quarantined and in stable health conditions.
