The chairman raised the problem during a meeting on March 20 about Covid-19 control and prevention. He asked related agencies to reduce the number of buses and bus trips as public buses have also been reduced in many countries in the EU and China.

"We need to reduce the number of bus trips. People should use less public transport these days," he said.

Thai Ho Phuong, deputy head of Hanoi Urban Transport Management and Operation Centre, said they had made plans to reduce the number of buses since March 23. On the weekdays, they will reduce 1,306 trips and 1,964 on the weekends.

"We'll reduce the trips for the current time but we'll make sure that travel demand is still met," he said.
