Four people in the central province of Quang Nam have been fined a total VND45 million (USD1,956) for disseminating false information about Covid-19.

Police in Hoi An City in Quang Nam Province summoned 14 people related to the fake news about many cases tested positive for Covid-19 in the city.

Four among those were requested to pay a total fine of VND45 million for posting statuses about the information, while the others were criticised for sharing and commenting on the rumour.

Earlier on March 8, a woman in Cam Ha Commune, published a status on her Facebook account saying that Hoi An had quarantined 214 people, including 40 sitting on the same flight. Among these, 30 were tested positive for Covid-19. Local authorities held an urgent meeting on the issue. Cam Chau area faced high risk of Covid-19 outbreak.

The news caused public worry.

The woman then admitted her violation and promised not to repeat this again.

Other people in different localities have also been fined for spreading fake news about Covid-19.
