"When I got married, my father, Phan Doan Nam, married again to Cao Thi Tan," Nham said. "Tan also had a son who was only one year old at the time."
Despite difficulties, they lived happily together and have two more children. Nam did odd jobs while Tan stayed at home to take care of the children. In early 2019, the couple registered in guest worker programme and borrowed money from friends and relatives to go to Saudi Arabia.
In July, Tan went to work while Nam took care of the fields at home. Unfortunately, on February 13, Nam suddenly fainted and was brought to the hospital but he died quickly.
"Tan wanted to return home but the company didn't allow her to quit. If she wanted to quit then she would have to pay VND100m," Nham said. "My father is at rest now and he will look after us from above."
They still haven't been able to repay the debts and their youngest child is only two years old. Their relatives are also too poor to help them. The children say when one cried, the others often cried too. They didn't know what to do but hug each other. The second son tried to look after his siblings despite their poverty.
Nguyen Van Quan, chairman of Kim Thanh Commune People's Committee, said, "Nam's family is our most difficult case. We hope people can help them, especially the children so that they will not be hungry and can go to school."
