Bui Thi Thu Hien calls for help for her child who has heart disease and hydrocephalus
Hien said both she and her husband had to work hard to support the family even when she was in the last months of pregnancy. One day, she felt her belly ache and was transferred to the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Hanoi under critical condition. Her husband can't go to work since he had to take care of two children at home and Hien at the hospital.
Unfortunately, her uterus had ruptured and doctors had to carry out a c-section. Hien had her uterus and a part of her bladder removed. Her son, Tuan An, only weighed 1.1kg at birth.
"I was told that doctors had to give me 8.5 litres of blood. I'm not afraid of dying, I'm scared that I might not be able to see my children," she said.
Hien was shocked when Tuan An was later diagnosed with heart disease and hydrocephalus. At first, she screamed so much and was not herself so the family didn't dare to let her go near the baby. She was only let to see Tuan An before his brain surgery was carried out. Luckily, she calmed down and the operation was successful.
"Doctors said he still needed to be monitored and take medicines. They urged us to start heart surgery as soon as possible to avoid risks," Hien said. "But we didn't have any money left so we brought him home. We even had to borrow money for transport."
Phan Tien Tho, vice chairman of Yen Kien Commune People's Committee, confirmed Hien's situation, saying that they had to borrow money everything for hospital charges. They borrowed VND200m (USD8,600) from Agribank, VND10m from the Social Policy Bank of Vietnam, VND50m and more from a tea company, farmers' association, freshwater fund, neighbours and relatives.
"We hope they will get help from the community," Tho said.
