12-year-old boy desperately fights against lymphoma

A mother in Hanoi's Soc Son District is calling for financial support to cover medical treatment to three ill children.

Nguyen Thi Ha said all of her children are ill. Her youngest child, 5-year-old Nguyen Dang Khanh, has gone through two operations because of nerve palsy. Her second child, 9-year-old Nguyen Dang Viet Anh, has pyelonephritis, an inflammation of the kidney. Her oldest child, 12-year-old Nguyen Dang Duong, suffers from lymphoma and swollen face.

"In late 2017, Khanh was scheduled for a third operation and that's also when Duong fell ill. I felt like my whole world had collapsed," Ha said.

Doctors kept telling her to be prepared for the worst. Ha said she couldn't bear it whenever Duong called her because of the pain or when he asked her if he would die. Several child patients in the same hospital room with Duong have died recently.

"You have to fight it. I'll borrow money to bring you to the hospital," Ha said to Duong.

After her children started falling ill one after another, Ha had to take a long leave of absence from work. No matter the hours or weather, Ha takes her children to the hospital on her own. In order to save money, she borrowed a motorbike from her acquaintances.

Vuong Thi Hong, Ha's mother, said she sells some vegetables and eggs at the market. Recently, she is trying to sell her dog to earn some money.

"I'm old. I wish I can die for him. He's only 12 years old yet he has to suffer a lot," Hong said.
