Hoi An People's Committee have charged entry to tourists since 1995. Revenues have increased yearly, and reached nearly VND76.5bn (USD3.3m) in 2003 and VND266bn in 2018. The city authorities have used the money to restore and renovate the historic architecture.
However, out-dated management has revealed many shortcomings. The local authorities have approved a sightseeing card and agreed to implement e-ticketing. The card will also provide information about attractions and services.
Tickets will be sold at Song Hoai Square, Hang Dieu, Le Loi and Bach Dang streets, and include 21 attractions in the first phase. The local authorities have started upgrading ticket booths.
In the second phase, the authorities will complete installation at state-owned parking lots. Both old tickets and new e-tickets will be accepted.
Nguyen Van Son, vice chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, said, "The project aims to improve the ticketing system to be more convenient, fast and accurate. Information technology will be applied in sightseeing activities and tourism management."
