MacBook Pro laptops allowed on flights

The Civil Aviation Authority has removed the ban on MacBook Pro from planes from November 15.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro primarily sold between September 2015 and February 2017 were banned from planes because the battery in the affected laptops can overheat, potentially swelling or igniting. Apple also quickly recalled the laptop models.

Passengers have been banned from keeping lithium battery and devices that use the affected batteries as cargo on planes.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, 15 inch MacBook Pros can be taken on planes again if the power is turned off or the batteries have been replaced. Electronic devices with lithium batteries are not recalled or have batteries replaced can also be brought to planes.

The new directive will take effect from November 15.
