Elderly couple calls for help

An elderly couple in Phu Tho Province is in desperate need of financial support after their son died from a traffic accident.

Nguyen Khac Hua suspected that he was contaminated with the Agent Orange after returning home from the war but he decided to keep it a secret. His wife, Nguyen Thi Bao, has mental illness and three of their daughters dropped out of school early. They all got married but also live in poverty.

Their youngest son supported the family but unfortunately, he died after a traffic accident in April. Hua and his wife mostly depend on the small monthly allowance for mental patients. Both Hua and his wife need to go to the hospital regularly but the allowance is not enough to pay their hospital fees.

"After our child died, my wife's illness got worse. She screamed all day and only laid down when she was tired. She keeps calling his name and refused to eat," Hua said.

Nguyen Khac Quy, head of the Cluster 5, said, "The death of their youngest son is a complete shock to them. Sometimes, I could still hear Bao calling for her son at night."
