Dak Nong emergency evacuation as reservoir threatens to break

Dak Nong emergency evacuation as reservoir threatens to break 

The local authorities had to evacuate the households living in the downstream of the reservoir right at night to safe locations.

The reservoir is over 600,000 cubic metres and provides water to Truong Xuan and Dak R'Moan communes. Starting from August 30, the reservoir began to overflow and cracks appeared on the sides, leaking water. Meanwhile, rain has continued to fall in Dak Nong.

After evacuating the households, the authorities quickly implemented measures to lower the water level in the reservoir and blocked the cracks.

This is the second reservoir accidents in Dak Nong Province this August.

From August 6 to 8, the reservoir of Dak Kar Hydropower Plant which is located in both Dak Nong and Binh Phuoc Province experienced a jammed valve and overflowing reservoir. Thousands of people living in the downstream were also evacuated.
