Thousands of young people nation-wide visited military cemeteries on the occasion of the 72nd War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

2,300 members of the youth unions in Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces visited and lit incense at the war cemeteries on the evening of July 26. Leaders, state officials of the province, families of the soldiers, the police and military also attended the events.

Phan Thi Trinh, deputy secretary of Dak Lak Youth Union, said, "The soldier has gave their lives for our peace. We promise to do our best for our community."

Dak Lak Martyr Cemetery is the resting place for 2,242 soldiers. The leaders, locals and young people often visited and light incense for the soldiers on July 27 every year. The local leaders have given 10 gifts to disadvantaged families of the soldiers and built seven charity houses that worth VND50m (USD2,100) each.

The youth union in Dak Nong Province also held many activities on the occasion of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs such as visiting and giving gifts to the families of the soldiers.

On the evening of July 26, over 2,500 members of the Youth Union in Danang also visited 27 martyrs' cemeteries and memorial constructions in the city. The union gave 20 gifts that worth a total VND20m (USD1,300) to the former youth volunteers, wounded soldiers and policy families.

Nguyen Duy Minh, secretary of Danang Youth Union, said, "We often hold memorial activities for the families to teach young people about history and patriotism."

On the occasion, the union has held many activities such as cleaning the cemeteries and memorial steles and visiting policy families. A music show featured old songs was held after the incense lighting ceremony.
