According to Honda Vietnam, in the fiscal year from April 2018 to March 2019, around 3.4 million motorbikes were sold in Vietnam, up 2.7% on-year. Among those, Honda Vietnam accounted for 2.56 million units, equal to 76.8% of the local motorbike market share, up 7.6% on-year. Of the figure, 1.51 million were scooters, up 9% on-year.

Piaggio Vietnam also saw the high sale of scooters. In the first quarter of this year, Piaggio Vietnam produced 34,056 scooters with 30% exported.

A representative from Piaggio Vietnam said that scooter sales had been positive in Vietnam over the recent years, particularly in big cities.

Currently, scooters account for nearly 60% of the total motorbike sales. Semi-automatic motorbikes have also sold well.

Scooters have been forecasted to secure up to 80% of the Vietnamese motorbike sale in the future.

General Director of Honda Vietnam, Keisuke Tsuruzono, said that the motorbike growth in the Vietnamese market would be positive in the 2019-2020 period with the sale of 3.4-3.5 million. The trend would be still maintained in many years to came as motorbikes are still the main means of transport in Vietnam.

Honda Vietnam has 800 authorised agents, with Yamaha having 472 and Piaggio 100 agents.
