Vietjet Air and Boeing sign USD12.7bn deal in the presence of US President Donald Trump and Vietnamese Secretary General and State President Nguyen Phu Trong on February 27
The deal was revealed at the Farnborough International Airshow in 2018.
McAllister said Vietjet Air was one of the top airlines in Vietnam with rapid growth. Huge orders and Vietjet's strong international flight network development have boosted Vietnam's geopolitical position. He went on to say that Vietjet and strong aviation sector are what helped improve tourism and cooperation so it's a pleasure to contribute a little to the development in Vietnam with their newest plane like the 737 Max.
In 2016, Vietjet Air also bought 100 Boeing 737 Max which was the largest order in Vietnam's aviation sector at the time. Vietjet Air has the largest orders for the B737 MAX in Asia.
"This is an important move in our plans to expand the international flight network and to bring new experiences to our customers. Signing the deal during the summit is a special hallmark in our development," Thao said.
Boeing will also help Vietjet Air in the technical area, pilots and technicians training as well as improve management capabilities.
Also at the event, Bamboo Airways, Vietnam’s newest carrier, also signed a nearly-3-billion-USD contract to buy 10 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner wide-body jets with the US group.
Last June, the carrier, owned by property developer FLC Group, also signed a deal to buy 20 Boeing 787-9 planes worth 5.6 billion USD. The first planes are expected to be handed over to the carrier in the third quarter of 2020.
Dang Tat Thang, General Director of Bamboo Airways, stated that the airline’s moves are aimed at improving its operation and increasing competitiveness in potential but challenging international routes.
