Part of U Minh Ha National Park will be used for eco-tourism development

The eco-tourism site will include fauna and flora collection and herbal gardens, hospitality services and an area to display traditional handicraft products.

Tours will also be created to connect the site with other destinations in Ca Mau such as Hon Da Bac and Song Trem as well as those in neighbouring provinces.

The VND1.458 trillion project includes VND106 billion sourced from the state budget, while the remainder is expected to be from the private sector.

The project is aimed to sustainably develop eco-tourism in the park while conserving and developing the local cajuput forest ecosystem.

Once the project is put into operation, U Minh Ha National Park is hoped to welcome more than 200,000 visitors in 2025, earning revenue of VND295 billion.

The U Minh Ha National Park is among the three wetland reserves in the Mekong Delta. It is also recognised as one of the three core zones of the Mui Ca Mau World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.

It is now home to 79 plant families with cajuput the most common trees, 32 mammal species and 74 bird species. Many of them are named in the Red List of Threatened Species of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also approved a master plan for the development of a national tourism site at Ca Mau Cape.

Under the plan, the tourism site is expected to draw around two million visitors by 2030, generating revenues of VND5 trillion (USD227.27 million) and creating jobs for 3,000 people.
