Her paternal grandmother Ly Thi Khiel, 63, said that, on the morning of August 30, Uyen and her brother and sister played in their house’s kitchen. Then they burnt some wastes for fun, causing the fire. However, the fire quickly spread to the whole kitchen and the bathroom nearby. Uyen’s brother and sister escaped, but Uyen got serious burns.
Ly Lan Huong, Uyen’s mother, and her husband have very modest salaries. The couple had to borrow money from different sources to pay the treatment for their daughter.

The children are staying with their paternal grandmother so that the couple could work away from home.
Local residents have donated to the family; however, the funds are limited, Son Thi Hoa from An Hiep Commune said.
Ngo Phan Kho, vice chairman of An Hiep Commune People’s Committee, hoped that donors can help to ease financial difficulties for the family to treat the little girl.
