Every day, Nguyen Minh Quy, 8, from Tay ethnic minority in Tan Thinh Commune, Van Chan District has been facing with great pains due to the disease over the past two years.

Quy’s mother Hoang Thi Vien said that two years ago, Quy suddenly suffered from a high fever. Initially, she took self-treatment of herbal medicines at home for two weeks, but the condition did not improve. A short time after that, he continued having high fevers and joint pains. Then he was taken to the National Hospital of Paediatrics where doctors said that he faced leukaemia.
“We had only VND5 million (USD227.27) to take him to the hospital, while his health insurance card expired. The money was not enough for the tests so his father had come back home to borrow more”, Vien said in tear.
At that time, the mother was in the 4th month of pregnancy and the shock caused the miscarriage for her.
Quy's house
Quy’s father Nguyen Van Cuong whose father died when he was one year ago said that he tried to borrow money from different sources. To date, his family incurred the total debt of VND200 million.
According to Do Van Tan, head of the village where Quy’s family is living in, the family was allowed to get loans from local authorities, but this was still low to afford the treatment fees.
